About Pen Tribune
Pen Tribune is an independent publishing house. It publishes its own list and works with independent authors who publish under their own names.
A tribune was the official who spoke for ordinary people against those who held power. We took the name because a book can still do that work. It can put a life on the record, argue a case or give a young reader a story about being heard.
Pen Tribune began as the imprint for the books of Josef Hammer. His novels and non-fiction appeared under it first, and they set the standard for everything that follows. Each book is edited with care, typeset properly and given a cover that belongs to it.
What we do
We publish a small list of our own and read open submissions for it. Alongside the list, we offer editing, design and production to authors who want to publish independently and keep control of their work. Both sides of the house follow the same standard.
How we work with writers
We say what we think about a manuscript, and we put terms in writing before any money changes hands. An author who works with us keeps the copyright in their book. We never charge a reading fee for submissions to the list.
